There any many different forms of arthritis all of which are typified by chronic pain and a
reduction in the range of movement of the afflicted joints. The sufferer will often find that their ability to conduct and fulfil ordinary,
everyday tasks is significantly impaired and the pain will often limit their routine. The fear of the pain is as bad as the actual pain itself,
in a bid to avoid aggravating the afflicted joints further, many arthritis sufferers tend to be less active.
Whilst the various forms of arthritis all have the same end result, i.e. causing pain and stiffness, and reducing a person’s
mobility, each of the different types of arthritis affects a different area more severely and is also caused by different reasons. Acute gouty
arthritis for example is caused by development of crystals in the tissues and membranes of the joint which then causes the cartilage to become
solid. Most commonly, acute gouty arthritis afflicts the thumb and big toes the worst, although this is by no means a hard and fast rule, because
there have been instances of gouty arthritis developing in the hips and shoulders as well.
Whilst there can be no denying that acute gouty arthritis is a painful condition, there are a number of factors specific to it
that make it more manageable than other forms of arthritis. Acute gouty arthritis is most commonly caused as a result of diets which are
excessively high in uric acid, and uric acid is typically found in foodstuffs such as alcohol and shellfish. Therefore, diet plays a crucial role
in the development and management of the (severity of the) symptoms of gouty arthritis, and because of this, gouty arthritis is readily
preventable.
Acute gouty arthritis is not solely caused by a poor diet, although a person’s diet is a major contributory factor. Certain
types of medication can also increase the levels of uric acid which are present in a person’s system, and so in order to help prevent gouty
arthritis it is important that if you are ingesting such medication, that you alter your diet to compensate for this.
Acute gouty arthritis is more commonly associated with men than women, although women are also capable of developing it as
well, and regardless of whether you are male or female, if you want to prevent gouty arthritis, then you need to ensure that you eat
healthily.
People who are overweight and clinically obese are at especially high risk of contracting acute gouty arthritis and given that this will only
serve to further diminish their mobility, it is imperative that such people lose weight. Make sure to consume alcohol in moderate amounts, if you
are a frequent and heavy drinkers, then you are increasing your risks of developing gouty arthritis significantly, as well as a host of other
health complaints.
Chronic gouty arthritis is a remarkably simply form of arthritis to prevent, you just need to ensure that you eat healthily.
